House in Carmel

This hillside home is shaped by the land itself, settling into the slope among oaks and long western views. The 4,100-square-foot residence moves with the terrain—living spaces gather low on the hillside while bedrooms rise toward the trees—creating a quiet sequence of outlooks, light, and privacy. Natural-colored stucco, Port Orford cedar, Douglas fir windows, and a Corten steel roof compose a palette rooted in the California savannah. Interiors carry the same restraint, blending wood, stone, and subtly tinted concrete to echo the surrounding landscape. A custom racetrack-shaped light fixture anchors the kitchen, where illumination and daily rituals meet. Guided by an early sketch, the architecture and interiors work in concert to create a house that feels inevitable, grounded, and deeply at home in its setting.
